CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Five hundred miles over 4 days is a long bike ride, but the CMPD officers that Wilson talks with this morning are ready to hit the road for one of their own.  Wilson was at Inside Out Sports on Church Street today having some fun with some of the officers...and products from the store...before the ride.

The Bike to D.C. Ride originated in 2007 when 4 area officers rode to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial to honor falllen officers Jeff Shelton and Sean Clark.  Both the number of riders and the ride have continued to grow.  This year the "Five Hundred for Fred" ride is being made in honor of fallen officer Fred Thornton when his name will be added to the memorial.  The ride also raises funds for the Charlotte's Finest Legacy Foundation for scholarships for high school students that want to go into law enforcement.
