Wilson's Going Retro with the Knights as they Celebrate Hornets Baseball
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - How well do you know your Charlotte sports trivia? Wilson was at BB&T Ballpark where he was learning a lot more about the origins of baseball in the Queen City. Tonight, the Charlotte Knights will be going retro to re-introduce Charlotte to its original baseball team, the Charlotte Hornets.
The first baseball team in Charlotte dates back to 1892 when the Charlotte Hornets were formed and for over 70 years Charlotte fans cheered for the Hornets. More than 20 former coaches and players who were a part of the Charlotte Hornets baseball team will return to the field tonight for a reunion that will bring some of them back together for the first time in over 30 years.
One players who will be returning is Charlie Manual who played for the Hornets in 1968. Manual later moved up to the majors as both a player and a manager for the Phillies leading them to their World Series win over Tampa Bay in 2008.
But of course, there is the game. At 7:05pm the Knights will take on the Gwinnett Braves. This game kicks off a 6 game home stand for the Knights.
