Simpson pledges to return, defend Wyndham title

GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — It's been quite a big year for Webb Simpson.

The Raleigh native and U.S. Open champion's star has taken off during the 10 months since he claimed his first PGA Tour title at the Wyndham Championship.

He said Thursday that he's coming back in August to defend his title at the Sedgefield County Club course that's roughly 30 miles from his college campus — Wake Forest.

Simpson is playing The Greenbrier next week, and is taking three weeks off after that. He will miss the British Open because his wife is due with their second child in late July.
