Wofford needs to beat App St to stay in SoCon hunt
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Wofford is still in the hunt for the Southern Conference title even after last week's loss to Georgia Southern. But if the Terriers lose to Appalachian State this week, coach Mike Ayers knows their situation gets dicey.
A loss Saturday could put the Terriers a game behind the Mountaineers and Eagles and unable to win the tiebreaker against either team with just three league games to go.
Mountaineers coach Jerry Moore says Wofford's offense gets lots of attention. But he points out the Terriers have the nation's 13th best defense, allowing just 307 yards a game
In other games Saturday involving South Carolina's Football Championship Subdivision teams Furman hosts Georgia Southern; South Carolina State travels to Florida A&M; Presbyterian is at Charleston Southern; and Coastal Carolina travels to VMI.
