BOONE, N.C. (AP) — Steven Miller ran for 170 yards and a touchdown as Appalachian State topped Furman 33-28 Saturday to clinch a share of its seventh Southern Conference championship in the last eight years.
The conference title is the Mountaineers' 12th, tying Furman's mark for the most in league history.
Furman (3-7, 2-5) took a 28-27 lead in the third quarter when Carl Rider returned an Appalachian State fumble 27 yards for a touchdown.
Sam Martin put the Mountaineers back on top and clinched the win with consecutive field goals of 19 and 32 yards.
Andrew Peacock set career highs with 11 catches and 130 yards for Appalachian State (8-3, 6-2), and also threw a 7-yard touchdown to Drew Bailey on his first career pass attempt.
Jamal Jackson was 32-of-46 passing for 332 yards, becoming the fourth quarterback in program history to collect 300-plus yards in consecutive games.
