BOONE, N.C. (AP) — Mike Groselle scored 10 of The Citadel's 12 points in overtime as the Bulldogs outlasted Appalachian State 80-77 Wednesday night, snapping a four-game skid.
Groselle, who finished with 22 points and 14 rebounds, made a layup to tie it at 68, forcing overtime, after The Citadel (7-19, 4-12 Southern Conference) saw its 10-point, second-half lead evaporate.
The Mountaineers' Jay Canty opened overtime with a layup, then Bulldogs freshman Matt Van Scyoc, who scored a career-high 24, tied it.
Groselle took it from there, making two baskets.
After Appalachian State knotted it at 74, Groselle added two foul shots. Tad Hamilton's 3-pointer pushed the Mountaineers ahead with 1:09 left, but Groselle answered with a layup, blocked Tevin Baskin's layup attempt and hit two free throws with 4 seconds left. Appalachian State's Mike Neal missed a trey at the buzzer.
Hamilton, Neal and Baskin scored 13 apiece for the Mountaineers (12-15, 8-8).
