GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (AP) — A former major league outfielder is facing sex abuse charges on Long Island.
Nassau County police confirmed the arrest Tuesday of Rosendo "Rusty" Torres. The 63-year-old Massapequa resident is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday on four misdemeanor counts of sexual abuse. The name of his attorney wasn't immediately known.
Prosecutors say Torres worked for the Town of Oyster Bay as a baseball coach. They say an 8-year-old was sexually abused inside a town-issued van. The victim's parents reported the incident to police on Monday.
A town spokeswoman said Torres was suspended without pay.
Torres played for the New York Yankees in 1971 and 1972. He later played for Cleveland, Kansas City, the Chicago White Sox and California Angels.
Officials said there were no indications of prior arrests on his record.
