49ers sophomore wing arrested on marijuana charge

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Charlotte 49ers sophomore wing DeMario Mayfield has been arrested on possession of marijuana and released on $250 bond.

Police records indicate Mayfield was arrested Feb. 14 around 2 a.m.

Mayfield was suspended for Wednesday's night game at Dayton.

Charlotte coach Alan Major says through the school's public relations department he's aware of the issue, but would not have any comment on the situation. Mayfield will play Saturday at Richmond.

Mayfield is averaging 10.7 points, 6.8 rebounds and is shooting .397 from the field. He posted three double-doubles in the four games leading up to his arrest and subsequent suspension.
