CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Virginia Tech senior forward JT Thompson has transferred to Charlotte and will play this season for the 49ers.
The 6-foot-6 Thompson, who grew up in the Charlotte suburb of Monroe and played three seasons with the Hokies before missing the last two years following ACL surgeries.
He has one year of eligibility remaining.
Thompson played in 92 games from his freshman year of 2007-08 to his junior year, averaging 6.5 points and 4.2 rebounds while shooting 51 percent from the field. He averaged 7.3 points and 4.6 rebounds in 34 games played during his junior season. He sat out 2010-11 following surgery to his left knee and last year after surgery on his right knee.
Coach Alan Major says Thompson brings "experience and leadership" to the team.
