DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — Justin Turri had three goals and two assists to lead third-seeded Duke past Syracuse 12-9 on Saturday in the first round of the NCAA men's lacrosse tournament.
Robert Rotanz finished with three goals — two coming immediately after Syracuse pulled to 5-all early in the third period. They came during a flurry of four goals in a span of 4:19 that helped Duke pull away.
Duke (14-4) is chasing its sixth straight Final Four berth, and claimed its first NCAA tournament win over the Orange (9-8) in four tries. The Blue Devils advance to the quarterfinals next weekend in Philadelphia.
Kevin Drew and Scott Loy had two goals apiece for Syracuse. Drew's first goal tied it 25 seconds into the third.
Tommy Palasek added one goal and two assists.
