RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — The Carolina Hurricanes have agreed to a one-year contract with defenseman Marc-Andre Gragnani.

The two-way deal will pay $800,000 at the NHL level or $105,000 at the American Hockey League level.

The 25-year-old defenseman played in 58 games with Buffalo and Vancouver last year, totaling two goals and 13 assists.

Carolina vice president of hockey operations Ron Francis says he expects Gragnani (GRAN'-ya-nee) to contend for a roster spot with the Hurricanes in the fall. Gragnani was a third-round draft pick by Buffalo in 2005 and has played in 73 NHL games in his career.
