Truex Jr. checked to make sure win wasn't a dream

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — After 218 consecutive losses, Martin Truex Jr. had to double-check that his skid was actually over.

When he woke up the day after his victory at Sonoma Raceway, he says he checked his phone to make sure the win hadn't been a dream. He found his phone was still full of congratulatory messages for Truex's first Sprint Cup Series win in more than six years.

Now Truex has to see if Sunday's win was the breakthrough that will lead to more victories. It happened last year with his Michael Waltrip Racing teammate Clint Bowyer, who picked up his first win at Sonoma and went on to grab a career-high three wins on the year.
