Panthers take OT Ziemba of Auburn to close draft

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — The Carolina Panthers have completed their eight-man draft class by picking up Cam Newton's former college teammate in the seventh round.

Offensive tackle Lee Ziemba of Auburn was the 244th overall selection on Saturday. He could end up blocking again for the quarterback Newton, who was the No. 1 overall pick on Thursday.

Ziemba is the second offensive lineman Carolina selected Saturday, joining Washington State's Zack Williams. Coach Ron Rivera had said before the draft the line was an area of need.

Ziemba set an Auburn record by starting 52 games in his career. He was a second-team Associated Press All-American last season as the Tigers won the national championship.
