COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Turns out that new South Carolina baseball coach Chad Holbrook wants a recruiting coordinator after all.
Holbrook named Sam Esposito to fill the head coach's old spot.
Holbrook said when taking over head coaching spot in July that he planned to continue heading up the club's recruiting efforts. However, Holbrook said Monday that Esposito can bring a relentless, nonstop approach to the task and give Holbrook the chance to handle other duties.
Esposito has been part of South Carolina's staff since 2007.
Holbrook took over as head coach from Ray Tanner, who led the Gamecocks to national championships in 2010 and 2011. Tanner was named South Carolina's athletic director last month.
Holbrook also announced former Gamecock Brian Buscher would be the team's volunteer assistant coach.
