WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) — Wake Forest has announced that former player Randolph Childress has been promoted to assistant coach.

Coach Jeff Bzdelik said Tuesday that assistant Walt Corbean will not have his contract renewed after six seasons and that Childress will replace him.

Childress was the Demon Deacons' director of player development last season after spending the 2011-12 season working for the athletic department in an administrative role.

He played two seasons in the NBA after a career at Wake Forest in which he was the MVP of the 1995 Atlantic Coast Conference tournament and led Wake Forest to its first league title in 33 years.

Corbean was hired by former coach Dino Gaudio. He spent four years as the director of basketball operations and two seasons as an assistant on Bzdelik's staff.
