CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The man killed in the Antlers Lane shooting Friday evening has been identified as Omari Aiken.
Officers said that Aiken and a second suspect, identified as Duran Rozzelle, went into the Pinetree apartment complex and attempted to rob three men at gun point. When Miguel Maldonado and one other unidentified victim fled, Aiken and Rozzelle assaulted and fired shots at a third victim who was unable to flee. Maldonado returned to the scene with a gun to help the third victim and shots were exchanged.
Aiken and Rozzelle were both shot during the incident. Another person that was with the robbery suspects then drove Aiken to a nearby McDonald's. A family member met Aiken and transported him to Carolinas Medical Center in Pineville where he was later pronounced dead.
Rozzelle was found Saturday morning at a hospital in Gastonia suffering from non-life threatening injuries from a gunshot wound. He has been charged with Attempted Armed Robbery. When released from the hospital, Rozzelle, will be transported to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office and remain in custody.
Maldonado is not being charged at this time.
