Out of control beer parties are the very thing colleges have been trying to keep a lid on since, well, forever. But one local college may be about to blow the lid off the whole thing. By and large, alcohol is only sold at college campuses in very few, limited circumstances that the state only recently made possible. But private colleges are a different matter. In fact, several of them totally ban alcohol altogether. And a few of them help provide it.
Davidson College is the latest higher-learning facility to tap into the booze market. The school is allowing Summit Coffee to open a new pub on campus, one that will serve beer and wine in addition to java. A few other private schools also have pubs on campus, and Davidson says those are examples that this kind of arrangement can work.
It's not like college kids can't find booze if they really want it, but what message does this send? Good idea or not? We hit the streets to find out...
