Don't want to sleep on the sidewalk? Then don't get high, especially if you're on welfare. The state is making it tough for anyone who gets "assistance" to get a little "baked". But does it presume too much?
Earlier today, the state legislature gave the final thumbs-up to a bill the governor had vetoed. In short, it gives the state the right to give drug tests to some people receiving assistance through welfare. The governor doesn't think the plan will work, and worries about the cost, and whether it's Constitutional.
Many observers say there's no proof that people on welfare use drugs at a higher rate than any other economic class of users. But there's just something to some of us about the idea of giving someone government help, only for them to turn around and use the money on drugs.
