The first thing most people noticed about Miley Cyrus' performance at the VMAs was how sexual it was. But with a few more hours of analysis, some people are picking up on something else. Something that screams "celebrity white privilege". Miley might have a race problem on her hands, even if she doesn't know it.
The stories started gaining traction yesterday, citing a history of racially insensitive incidents that all came together in Miley's VMA performance. And the proof really is in the performance. Some online observers saying the performance was nothing more than a "minstrel show", using black people as props. Recently, Miley has even been quoted as saying she wants to make music that "sounds black" and that she likes "hood music".
And while she's not making any negative comments, they can be seen as the kind of insensitive remarks made by someone with "white privilege."
