Obama to Issue Executive Order on Gun Control
CNN — President Obama is beginning his final year in office with a renewed focus on stopping gun violence.
Obama says he’ll meet Monday with Attorney General Loretta Lynch to see what executive actions might be possible. The steps could include stronger background checks on gun purchasers and closing gun show loopholes.
The White House says the President’s actions will be in line with polls that show broad support for tightening background checks.
“Unfortunately, Congress hasn’t shown the courage to do so,” said White House Deputy Press Secretary Eric Schultz. “So that’s why the President has asked his team to look at what he can do administratively.”
The gun control proposals are expected to be revealed next week before President Obama’s final State of the Union address on January 12.
