Ohio Mom Arrested For Letting 10-Year-Old Son Get Tattoo
An Ohio mom has been arrested for letting her 10-year-old son get a tattoo after a video of the incident went viral after it was shared on Facebook.
Nikki Dickinson, 34, was charged with first-degree misdemeanor child endangerment and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Authorities say the 16-year-old tattoo artist, identified as Kyle Richardson, was also charged with “performing tattoos in a manner that doesn’t meet safety and sanitation standards, and tattooing in a manner that does not meet sterilization and disinfection standards.”
Although Dickinson was arrested, tattooing a minor is not necessarily illegal. According to Ohio state law,
“No person shall perform a tattooing procedure, body piercing procedure, or ear piercing procedure with an ear piercing gun on an individual who is under eighteen years of age unless consent has been given by the individual’s parent, guardian, or custodian in accordance with division (B) of this section.”
Section B offers that a parent, guardian, or custodian of the minor has to appear in person at the business during the time of the procedure and sign a document that details the procedure and proper aftercare of the area where the tattoo is made.
The state law also requires that the procedure meet safety and sanitation standards.
