Quadruple Shooting Leaves One Dead At Uptown Charlotte Graduation Party

CHARLOTTE, NC. —  Dozens of shots fired at an Uptown apartment complex. One person is dead and three are hurt. Police have one person in custody, and there may be more suspects.

In home security video given to WCCB, you can hear dozens of gunshots, screams, then you see people running.

Police say four people were shot in front of the building following an argument around 1 am Monday.

24-year-old Calvin Haines died at the scene. A 16, 19 and 22 year-old went to the hospital.  The 16-year-old is in critical condition. Police say Haines was found in a stairwell of the apartment.

“One person pulled out a firearm and started to shoot, there was another one seen pulling out a firearm and started to return fire,” says CMPD Captain Rob Dance.

Police say the shooting happened during a graduation party. Witnesses tell WCCB there were more than 100 people there, ranging from high school age to early 20’s.

The apartment the party was at was a short term rental. Airbnb tells WCCB that the person who rented it is now banned and the listing for the apartment is suspended.

The person in custody has not been charged.

According to the police report, the 16-year-old victim had drugs or alcohol.  CMPD says it will charge anyone who provided alcohol to anyone underage.
