Charlotte Man Accused Of Stealing Minivan With Child Inside Arrested In South Carolina

CHARLOTTE, NC — Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department say a man accused of stealing a minivan on Saturday with a child inside has been arrested.

Michael Crittenden, 26, was arrested on unrelated charges Sunday night in Conway, South Carolina. After being booked, Conway authorities reportedly learned he had outstanding warrants in Charlotte connected to a stolen vehicle and kidnapping case.

According to CMPD, Crittenden stole a Kia Sedona minivan that was left running and unattended outside the Novant Health complex on Hawthorne Lane Saturday.

Police say a child was inside the van when it was stolen. Crittenden reportedly dropped the child off safely on Water Walk Lane a short time later.

The stolen minivan was also located in Conway at the time of Crittenden’s arrest, according to police.

Officials say Crittenden faces charges of First-Degree Kidnapping, Larceny of a Motor Vehicle and Possession of a Motor Vehicle. He is now awaiting extradition to Mecklenburg County.
