STATESVILLE, N.C. — Officials say two Rowan County residents will not be charged with murder following a deadly shooting over the weekend.
Statesville Police say 28-year-old Daquon Martin and 26-year-old Ronald Martin both showed up at Davis Hospital just before midnight on September 13th suffering from gunshot wounds. Both men were transferred to Baptist Hospital for surgery. Authorities determined the men lived on Foster Road in Woodleaf.
Around 4am the next morning, the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office was contacted in reference to a body being discovered in the front yard of a residence on Foster Road. The victim was identified as 35-year-old Robin Worth, Jr. Deputies say Worth was found wearing latex gloves on his hands and a black shirt covering his face. Worth reportedly died from a single gunshot wound.
During the course of the investigation, Rowan County Detectives say they were able to determine that Worth and another person drove to Foster Road with the intentions of committing a robbery. During the alleged robbery attempt, authorities say there was a confrontation between Worth and Daquon and Ronald Martin. During the confrontation, Worth and the other person with him reportedly fired multiple shots from a weapon at both Daquon and Ronald. Detectives say one of the Martin’s returned fire and shot Worth.
The Rowan County District Attorney’s Office said the shooting of Worth was done in self defense, therefore, no murder charges will be filed.
The investigation into the robbery and the assault continues. Detectives have not released the name of the person they believe was with Worth during the attempted robbery. This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
