37-Year-Old Man Found Dead In Wooded Area In Lincolnton, Homicide Investigation Underway

The suspicious death case of a man who was found in a wooded area in Lincolnton Tuesday evening is now being investigated as a homicide, according to deputies.

Deputies responded to Smith Farm Road after a report of a suspicious vehicle in the area by two men who were training a hunting dog saw the vehicle in the woods.

Deputies K-9’s were brought to the scene and were able to quickly locate the body of the victim. The medical examiner identified the body as 37-year-old William Buster McCarter of Lincolnton.

The medical examiner is continuing the investigation into the cause of death.

LINCOLNTON, N.C. — A suspicious death investigation is underway in Lincolnton after a man was found dead in a wooded area Tuesday evening, according to Lincoln County deputies.

Deputies responded to Smith Farm Road around 7:40 p.m. after reports of a suspicious vehicle located off the road in a wooded area.

After checking the vehicle, deputies determined it belonged to a man who was reported missing on July 7, 2021.

The man’s body was found after a deputy K-9 was brought to the scene. The case of death for unidentified man that was found in the wooded area has not been provided at this time.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
