Police: Man Fired Shot At Officers Outside Gastonia Mall

GASTONIA, N.C. — Police are investigation after a man allegedly fired a weapon at officers outside a popular mall in Gastonia.

Detectives say they were investigating a car theft at Eastridge Mall Monday afternoon. During the course of the investigation, police say the suspect in the car theft came out of a store and fired a shot at officers on the scene.  Officers did not shoot back.

The suspect then allegedly jumped over a retaining wall and fell approximately 25 feet. He was taken to a local hospital for injuries he sustained in the fall.

No officers were injured in the incident.  Police haven’t released the suspect’s name and there is no word on charges at this time.
