GASTONIA, N.C. — Gastonia Police are investigating an early morning traffic accident that killed a Gastonia man.

The accident happened at 5:51 a.m. at the intersection of Bessemer City Road and Oates Road. Shelia Brown, 56, of Gaston Way, Dallas, was on her way to work, driving a 2002 Kia Sportage. She was traveling south on Bessemer City Road and was slowing in the middle turning lane when she struck a pedestrian, Carl William Hudson, 61, of Bessemer City Road.

Mr. Hudson was transported to CaroMont Regional Medical Center where he died in the emergency room from injuries. Mr. Hudson had walked to a convenience store and was on his way home when the accident occurred. Ms. Brown said she did not see him.
Gastonia Police Departmentβs Traffic Bureau is investigating.
