CHARLOTTE N.C.- The third annual Sandbox Prom is just days away. This event is put together by the community for children with life altering illnesses. Nearly 270 guests are expected at the evening of believing.
Meet Abey Wright. She is a happy, cheerful little girl suffering from a rare form of dwarfism. She was crowned Prom Queen at last year’s Sandbox Prom. After getting dolled up for a night of glitz and glamor Abbey realized she has a passion for make-up, “My favorite is lipstick. everywhere I go no matter what, whenever I’m not wearing make-up I will wear lipstick.”
Fellow prom goer Thuc Deep says he will remember the experience the forever. From police escort, to stepping out of a limo onto a red carpet, all the paparazzi camera flashes made him feel famous, “I felt like I was Brad Pitt or Tom Cruise or somebody like a celebrity honestly. “
Putting smiles on kids faces is what The Sandbox Prom is all about says Co-Founder Mara Campolungo, “Maybe they were in clinic the day before or forgetting that they’re in pain or don’t feel comfortable and they will look beautiful and they will feel normal and they will forget their woes for one night.”
No longer a patient, Thuc has dedicated his life to encouraging others to believe, “I just want to give back but honestly I don’t have anything to give that’s why all I have is my time, my energy, I try to give the best I can you know.”
