CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A group promises no one will forget two Charlotte women killed by domestic violence last week. Balloons honoring Marcia Winningham and Mara Garcia were released in uptown Thursday night. Police said Winningham was killed by a man she filed a protection order against a year ago. Garcia’s boyfriend is accused of dismembering her before killing himself. Mothers of murdered offspring held Thursday’s night vigil to send a message to the victims’ families. Last year CMPD responded to more than 35,000 domestic violence calls.
