CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Family and friends of a murdered East Charlotte woman released balloons and lit candles in her memory Sunday evening. CMPD said David Fields shot and killed 43-year-old Marcia Winningham at her home on Filbert Avenue Thursday night. Winningham worked as a social-worker and counselor at Hopewell High School. Investigators said she filed a protection order against Fields one year ago.

“If you’re ever put in a situation that you need to get out of make sure you make the right decision and get out of that, get out of that situation,”said Wayne Burch, a co-worker of Winningham’s.

Virginia state police arrested David Fields Friday. Anthony Obee and Raemona Winningham were also shot. They are in critical condition.
