Former Winthrop Board of Trustees Member Killed In Murder-Suicide

ROCK HILL, S.C. — Police say a former chair of Winthrop University’s Board of Trustees was killed in a murder-suicide.

Investigators believe 91-year-old James Martin shot and killed his wife, 81-year-old Dr. Mary Jean Martin, then killed himself.

The couple was married for 14 years.  Police were called to the home off Herlong Avenue Monday morning after a caregiver found their bodies.
