Man on the Edge: Coolest Parts of Charlotte?

This video is no longer available.

Charlotte has one of the prettiest skylines in the entire Southeast—check that—make it the entire nation.  The QC has a lot going for it, from Uptown’s excitement, to the prestige in South Charlotte, to the “suburban” feel around the 485 loop.  Every different area has a different and unique feel to it.  So which is best?

Charlotte just showed up on a list as one of the best places in America for people 35 and under.  Vocativ.com’s Livability Index takes into consideration things like salaries, employment rates, the cost of rent, utilities, and food.  Plus coffee shops and bars, live music, vintage clothing and transportation… hipster stuff like that.

And while Charlotte’s mix of the eclectic makes for a fantastic living experience, Charlotte isn’t really a homogenous town.  It’s more like a giant border drawn around a bunch of little towns.  From the artsy-ness of NoDa, to Plaza-Midwood’s post-hipster/neuveax-family feel, to University City’s pragmatic populace, to Ballantyne’s explosion of “posh”.  Cotswold offers some “old Charlotte” charm, while Uptown… well, it’s Uptown.

Every different place in Charlotte has a lot to offer the 35-and-under crowd, but that doesn’t mean everybody “fits” everyplace in town.

Our Man on the Edge, Robert Wilder, is the kind of hipster who was hipster before hipster was hip.  So he has to find out: what’s the coolest and hippest part of Charlotte to live in?
