Β Low turnout was expected this year, which is not that uncommon since it’s a mid-term election, but Charlotte has a lot at stake with choosing a brand new mayor on the clock. Β The numbers show Democrat Patrick Cannon has won the race for mayor, and we were live for his acceptance speech in the News @ Ten.
Cannon is not exactly an ideological copy of former Mayor Anthony Foxx, but he does share allegiance to the same political party. Β As Charlotte has increased in size and population in our inner city, Democrat numbers have also risen. Β And having the DNC here didn’t hurt Democrat visibility. Β So much so that some think we’ve reached a tipping point, where Charlotte will always be Democrat. Β
