Man on the Edge: Is Charlotte Forever Democrat?

The polls are closed, and votes are being counted as we report, but we can already make a few calls!  Low turnout was expected this year, which is not that uncommon since it’s a mid-term election, but Charlotte has a lot at stake with choosing a brand new mayor on the clock.  The numbers show Democrat Patrick Cannon has won the race for mayor, and we were live for his acceptance speech in the News @ Ten.

Cannon is not exactly an ideological copy of former Mayor Anthony Foxx, but he does share allegiance to the same political party.  As Charlotte has increased in size and population in our inner city, Democrat numbers have also risen.  And having the DNC here didn’t hurt Democrat visibility.  So much so that some think we’ve reached a tipping point, where Charlotte will always be Democrat.
