LINCOLNTON, N.C. — A Matthews man who was shot during a standoff with Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputies has been released from the hospital and placed in jail.
Tyler Kennedy, 23, is in custody under a $500,000 secured bond. Kennedy is accused of entering the CVS in Denver Thursday afternoon armed with a shotgun. Authorities say he jumped the counter and demanded money. He left the store without any money and caused a short police chase. Kennedy’s pickup truck was spotted on Burton Lane when he pulled his vehicle into a grassy area.
Deputies surrounded the scene as the suspect fired several shots, some in the direction of the officers. Deputies returned fire striking Kennedy in the lower body. He was immediately taken into custody and transported to Carolinas Medical Center.
Kennedy is facing a felony charge for attempted murder of a law enforcement officer. He is expected to be in court on Monday.
