WASHINGTON, D.C. – There are new demands from the Feds today in the mega merger of US Airways and American Airlines.  The Justice Department wants the airlines to get ride of takeoff and landing slots at key airports across the county.  In exchange, Attorney General Eric Holder will drop the federal lawsuit challenging the merger.

Holder says that they hope to resolve the case short of trial, but if demands are not met, that the Justice Department is fully prepared to take the case to trial.  The trial is currently set for November 25th.  The Feds worry that the merger would hurt competition and raise airfares.
