Police Arrest Suspect in South Charlotte Deadly Shooting

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Detectives have arrested Miguel Zelaya for his involvement in the shooting death of Jose Ibarra. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department says Zelaya was located in an apartment on Lakemist Drive on an unrelated robbery warrant on Friday morning. 

On Wednesday, around 9:46 p.m., officers were called to an assault on Sharon Lakes Road in south Charlotte. When officers arrived they say Jose Ibarra had been shot and transported to an area hospital by a family member. Ibarra later died as a result of his injuries. During the investigation, authorities determined that Zelaya and Ibarra had some sort of altercation in the parking lot.

Zelaya is charged with murder, discharging a firearm into an occupied property causing serious bodily injury and two counts of attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon.
