Police Arrested Man Accused Of Robbing Distracted Shoppers

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police arrested a man that was targeting distracted shoppers in the Charlotte area. 

Investigators were called to a Harris Teeter on Harris Boulevard on December 2nd after a woman reported her purse being stolen out of her car while she was sitting inside it. 

The victim attempted to grab the purse back from the accused suspect, Nicolaus Gibbs.  The purse fell to the ground, spilling the contents out.  Gibbs is accused of picking up the woman’s wallet and driving off in a getaway vehicle. 

Police located the suspect’s vehicle a short time later took Gibbs into custody.  They were able to recover the woman’s wallet. 

During the investigation, police also determined Gibbs as the suspect for several other larceny cases.
