CHARLOTTE, NC- The search is on for a suspicious van and the man behind the wheel.
Cabarrus County deputies say the suspect tried more than once to lure a 12-year-old girl into his car Sunday in the Heatherstone subdivision off Stallings Road in Harrisburg.
Detectives say the man used a picture of a lost dog as bait, but luckily, the girl didn’t fall for it.
It happened around 4:30p.m. Sunday afternoon when the 12-year-old girl was playing basketball in her driveway.
“The individual rolled down the window approximately four inches, and the windows were tinted. He showed her a picture of a puppy and said ‘can you help me find my puppy’,” said Sgt. Kevin Pfister with the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office.
When she said “no”, he drove off, but didn’t give up.
“Several minutes later, drove back by, and then asked if she would get in the van,” said Pfister.
The girl also says he also told her she’s pretty.
That’s when she ran inside her house and told her parents, who called 911.
Residents in the neighborhood don’t have a very detailed description of who to look out for.
Deputies say he’s a white man with a deep voice. He’s driving a black, work-style, large van with tinted windows and a white mark on the driver’s side fender.
Detectives are asking neighbors who’ve seen the black van, or have outdoor surveillance cameras that may have video of it, to contact them.
