CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The man widely known as the “ski mask rapist” admits he terrorized more women than even prosecutors knew about.
Jerry Lee Brooks pled guilty to three rapes from 1979 on Thursday. Judge Robert Ervin sentenced him to life in prison as part of a plea agreement. Per the plea agreement, Brooks agreed to be interviewed by CMPD’s Sexual Assault Cold Case Unit. During the interview, detectives say Brooks confessed to the three cases that he had been charged with and an additional six cases. One of those cases was an attempt only.
The investigation into the series of rapes went cold until 2012.
Investigators say that DNA from Brooks had been entered in the Combined DNA Index System and connected him to each of the scenes of the 1979 rapes.
The District Attorney’s Office allowed Brooks to plead guilty so that the victims would not have to relive their assaults at trial.
