UNION COUNTY, N.C. — A Union County substitute teacher has been fired after being accused of sending a student explicit messages online. Randall Cassels was arrested on Monday at Piedmont High School.
Detectives say the 16-year-old victim was a student at River View High School in Bradshaw, West Virginia. Cassels was a teacher at the high school and that is where authorities say the two met.
The student told administrators she became concerned about Cassels after he allegedly tried to meet her during Thanksgiving break.
According to a spokesman with Union County School District, Cassels was fired immediately after officials learned of the charges.
He was hired in August 2013. He faces charges of soliciting a minor by computer.
