Volunteer Firefighter Dies After Being Taken Off Life Support

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The volunteer firefighter who was shot when he confronted several people breaking into his house has died.

A Facebook page created by family and friends of Marcus Kauffman says doctors found new damage to his brain.  Doctors informed the family that they have done everything they can and it may be time to let go.

The family made the decision Friday to take Kauffman off life support.

Kauffman was shot two weeks ago outside his home on Chenault Drive in Rowan County.  Police have arrested four men in the case.  Two of the four suspects are now facing murder charges.
