CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Summer rains filled Mountain Island Lake with trash, debris — even septic waste. Clean up crews on Mountain Island Lake used paddle boards to spot floating trash, Sunday. The Charlotte Surfrider Foundation organized the clean up near the Neck Road boat ramp. After volunteers pulled trash out of the lake — they practiced stand up paddleboarding. Organizers said they want to keep all of Charlotte’s lakes and river’s clean. Excessive rainfall this summer flooded homes along the lake. When the water receded, it dragged septic waste and debris with it. Officials even asked boaters to stay off the lake for a few days.
