CHARLOTTE,NC–State Senator Malcolm Graham says he will not seek re-election to the 40th district seat he’s held for a decade.

Instead, he’s set his sights on running for the now-vacant U.S. House of Representatives district 12 seat, formally held by representative Mel Watt.

Graham says he sees 2014 as a year of opportunity and is looking forward to moving up.

“It’s bittersweet but it’s an opportunity to do something different and I’m looking for new challenges and new opportunities as this new year comes about,” says Graham.

Watt resigned recently to head up the Federal Housing Finance agency.

A primary for Watts Congressional seat will be held on May, 6th with the election in November.
