CHARLOTTE, NC – A better team, and now a better stadium.
On Tuesday, the Carolina Panthers unveiled the design plans for Bank of America Stadium’s $147 million face-lift.
The renovations will happen in three phases over the next three off-seasons. Renovations start January 21.
The team says the stadium facelift is all about enhancing the fan experience. Bank of America stadium is almost 18 years old, but now fans can look forward to bigger and better.
First – no more walking up ramps. 12 new super-wide escalators will take fans to the club and upper deck levels.
At each end zone there will be two video boards more than double the size of the existing ones where fans can catch replays, game information, and stats.
“A better experience all around! Watching it at home, you can see plays and replays and in the stadium, you want that same experience,” said Alex Bryan, a South Charlotte resident.
The team is also adding a new distributed sound system and 360-degree ribbon boards around the stadium – they’ll be the longest in the NFL.
Partying is also part of the plans. On top of the escalator bays will be four “Party Plazas” in the upper bowl where fans can watch games on TVs and enjoy the view of Uptown Charlotte.
“Better team, better stadium… always goes farther,” said Matt Mauldin, a Gastonia resident.
The big changes, come with a big price tag.
Last spring, Charlotte City Council approved the $147 million in upgrades.
The team will chip in $60 million, with a promise to stick around for six years.
The city will fund $87.5 million, with the money coming from the hotel/motel tax and the prepared food and beverage tax.
“If you’re a football fan, it’s a good thing. If you’re not and you’re paying high taxes… it’s another thing,” Mauldin.
