CHARLOTTE, N.C. – UPDATE: Crews have confirmed power has been restored to south Charlotte residents after a transformer blew Monday afternoon. As temperatures plummet in the Charlotte area (19 degrees at the time this article was published), residents in south Charlotte are being impacted by a power outage. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police confirm for WCCB that shortly after 6PM, a transformer blew and caused a small fire on Providence Road near Cavendish Court.
The fire caused power outages in the area, including traffic signals. Crews are working to repair the transformer. Providence Road southbound will be closed for approximately three more hours.
The closure extends from Cavendish Ct. to S. Sharon Amity Road. No one was injured in this incident. Crews expect to restore power by 9PM.
