CHARLOTTE,NC–A wreath laying ceremony in uptown Charlotte Wednesday, marking the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Junior.
The event kicks off a week of celebrations in honor of the civil rights leader.
Along with laying the wreath at the statue in Marshall Park, those attending sang hymns and joined in a prayer circle.
Dr. King would have turned 85 Tuesday.
The city will hold it’s MLK Parade Saturday morning January, 18th at 11am.
The parade starts at 11th and N. Tryon and ends at Stonewall and S. Tryon. The main stage is located at Levine Ave of the Arts. Get there early to claim your spot along the route
The annual prayer breakfast is Monday at the Charlotte Convention Center from 7:30-9:00am.
