CHARLOTTE, NC–Snow preparations are underway across our area.
Road and power crews are ramping up, some on standby ahead of the wintry weather.Β
A Duke Energy spokesperson is putting plans in place to bring additional crews into areas that could see the worst weather.Β
NCDOT and CDOT crews are treating highways, bridges, and overpasses.
Β
On Monday night more than a dozen NCDOT crews were out treating I-77, I-85, I-485, and I-277. If they don’t finish laying the salt brine mixture before 6am, they’ll get back out at 9am after rush hour.
Β
“This time it’s not arriving first as rain or sleet. Β It’s pure snow, so this is going to be our first run this year to see how well our plans are implemented,” said Jen Thompson, NCDOT spokesperson.
Β
Duke Energy says it’s crews are also working around the clock.
Β
“We’re checking our inventory, activating storm plans, making sure we have staff and the equipment we need in the event that we see power outages,” said Paige Sheehan.
Β
Duke Energy is mobilizing crews working in areas that will not be affected.Β
Β
“We can quickly move those people to the hard-hit spots, so they can help the folks who are already there restoring power,” said Sheehan.
Β
The winter weather is also impacting flights at Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
Β
On Monday, there were more than 80 delayed flights and 17 cancelled flights.Β
