Student Shot Dead At South Carolina State University

ORANGEBURG, S.C. — UPDATE: Orangeburg County Coroner’s Office has confirmed the name of the deceased victim as 20-year-old Brandon Robinson. Officials at South Carolina State University say the victim died at The Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg around 6 p.m. 

Campus police say the victim was gunned down Friday afternoon at the Andrew Hugine Suites Living and Learning community around 1:30 p.m. Police say witnesses identified four suspects who had left the campus. There is no word if any arrests have been made at this time.

Sonya Bennett said the university campus was intially put on lockdown; those restrictions were lifted a few hours later. South Carolina State’s Facebook page still urged people to “remain cautious and report any suspicious activity to police.”

At this time, South Carolina Law Enforcement Division has taken the lead on this investigation. 

South Carolina State University is a historically black university with about 3,200 students in Orangeburg, about 40 miles south of Columbia.
