CHARLOTTE, NC– A Lancaster man is behind bars Friday night, accused of taking money from homeowners and never doing the work.

On Friday, Rowan County Sheriff’s deputies arrested 33-year-old Harvey Laney. Investigators say he operated under the business name Carolina Roofing. WCCB called the number listed online, but it’s been disconnected.

Investigators say over the last month, Laney responded to three calls from prospective clients. After providing a quote and agreeing on a price, the victims say he had them pay a percentage of the total cost up front. Investigators say he then took the money and bailed.

Rodney Threatt with All American Roofing, Inc. says it’s people like Laney that give honest roofers a bad name. He says it’s up to the homeowners to do their homework and ask questions. He also says to look out for red flags. If they don’t have a legitimate business card, website, a picture badge or references: buyer beware.

Harvey Laney is charged with three counts of breach of trust over $2,000.
